The previous School reception was small and cramped with limited seating for visitors and parents, and little natural light. The receptionist was in a small office with a higher floor level, and a small window to the waiting area, making the two spaces feel unconnected and unwelcoming.

Our proposals follow the School’s wish for the receptionist to have a desk within the waiting area, and for better provision of seating.

The reception has been enlarged, with a deep overhanging roof which provides a generous canopy outside the building, useful in bad weather.

New large windows in the waiting area give views across the School’s front lawn to the new School theatre, and rooflights will flood the reception with natural light, making it feel more generous and welcoming.

The adjoining Mathematics classrooms will be integrated visually by extending the canopy around the entire building, and replacing the windows with new double-glazed units to match the reception.
