COMPLETED PROJECT
LLANFROTHEN
The existing building is a traditional Welsh crogloft cottage, which had been allowed to become derelict. The owners have rescued the building from being taken over by ivy and self-sown trees.
We were asked to design a renovation of the cottage to provide high quality accommodation including 2 bedrooms (one in the original crogloft location, and one in the attached original pigsty – also derelict), and an open plan living space which takes advantages of the magnificent views to the South over the mountains of Snowdonia. A large walk-in wet room completes the picture.

The cottage and pigsty have been rebuilt using local stone facing over Hempcrete walls and high levels of sheep’s wool insulation. The development including the neighbouring barn conversion is designed to be off-grid, with the use of air source heating, photovoltaic panels and a dedicated sewage treatment plant.
